BAGHDAD, July 29: At least 20 members of Iraq’s Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) were killed and 32 others wounded in US-Saudi airstrikes targeting several of the group’s bases across Iraq, the group said on Wednesday.

The PMF said the strikes hit multiple locations, causing casualties and damage to its facilities. The coalition of mostly Iran-aligned armed groups condemned the attacks and described them as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

The strikes came after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American and Saudi forces carried out joint precision attacks against Iranian-linked groups in Iraq, accusing them of involvement in drone attacks targeting US forces and Saudi interests.

Iraqi authorities have called for an emergency security meeting to assess the situation following the overnight strikes and their impact on regional tensions.
