RIYADH, Jul 4: The Saudi-led coalition has warned it will respond with "unprecedented determination and force" to any Houthi attack targeting Saudi Arabia or violating Yemen's sovereignty, following fresh threats from the Iran-backed group.
Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Malki accused the Houthis of attempting to distract from Yemen's humanitarian and economic crisis by escalating tensions with neighboring countries. He said the coalition remained committed to protecting the kingdom, its citizens, residents and critical infrastructure in line with international humanitarian law.
The warning came after Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree threatened a "comprehensive" response against Saudi airports and key facilities, claiming Houthi air defenses forced Saudi warplanes to retreat during an alleged attempt to prevent an Iranian civilian aircraft from landing at Sanaa International Airport.
Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council condemned the reported flight as a violation of the country's sovereignty and called on the United Nations to take stronger action against Iran.
