RIYADH, Oct 12: The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said Monday it was responding to a threat involving drones and cruise missiles targeting Saudi Arabia, according to state-run Al Ekhbariya TV.
“The coalition is currently dealing with a threat involving drones and cruise missiles targeting the kingdom,” the broadcaster reported.
The coalition did not disclose the number of drones or missiles involved, their launch points or the areas targeted.
The announcement comes amid escalating hostilities between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement, with airports and other civilian and energy facilities reportedly coming under attack in recent days.
On Sunday afternoon, an unidentified projectile struck Terminal 4 at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, killing a Pakistani resident and injuring 11 others, according to Saudi authorities. The coalition also said it intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile near the airport.
A day earlier, a Houthi attack struck a passenger terminal at the airport, killing 13 people and injuring 309 others, according to Saudi authorities.
The Saudi-led coalition accused the Houthis of carrying out Saturday’s attack and described the strike as a “full-fledged war crime.”
