RIYADH, Aug 22: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Commerce has shut down a foreign-based online store after discovering it was advertising counterfeit gold bullion made of copper coated with gold to deceive buyers.
Authorities said the store was targeting Saudi consumers by promoting bullion of various weights at prices nearly half the market value. Working with relevant agencies, the ministry swiftly blocked the site to protect shoppers and uphold the Kingdom’s E-Commerce Law and regulations.
The ministry urged consumers to check the credibility of online stores before making purchases through the “Enquiry on E-Commerce Documentation” service on the Saudi Business Center platform, and warned against dealing with unverified websites or social media accounts to avoid falling victim to scams.
