Saudi Arabia's bid for 2034 World Cup gains momentum with Australia's withdrawal.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia. Oct 1, (Agencies): Australia had its sights set on hosting the 2034 World Cup, but now Saudi Arabia appears poised to take its place after Australia withdrew its bid to host the tournament.

Earlier, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) had opened the doors for countries interested in organizing the 2034 World Cup. The 2034 edition of the World Cup is expected to return to Asia for the third time in its history.

On October 9, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation officially submitted its bid to host the 2034 World Cup, with the hope of becoming the third Arab country to host the World Cup after Qatar in 2022 and Morocco alongside Spain and Portugal in 2030.

Australia was one of the countries planning to bid for the 2034 World Cup hosting rights but issued a statement today announcing its withdrawal and expressing support for Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the Australian Football Federation said, "We wish FIFA and the rightful host of the 2034 World Cup the greatest success for the sake of the game and all those who love our sport."

Australia highlighted its success in jointly hosting the Women's World Cup with New Zealand and achieving significant profits. The focus will now shift to hosting other important football events.

With Australia's withdrawal, Saudi Arabia's chances of hosting the 2034 World Cup have significantly improved, making it a potential contender to host this prestigious global tournament.
