NEW YORK, Sept 22: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
The two ministers held talks in New York ahead of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, discussing the implementation of the defense agreement and efforts to advance regional peace, stability and security.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the ministers “discussed matters pertaining to the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement” and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation under the pact.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a bilateral defense pact last year, which was followed by the signing of a trilateral Makkah defense agreement last month involving Türkiye.
Dar also expressed Pakistan’s “steadfast solidarity” with Saudi Arabia and condemned recent attacks targeting the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia has faced attacks in recent weeks from Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement, with the conflict involving aerial, missile and drone attacks amid the ongoing US-Iran war.
