Saudi Arabia launches 1st women football league

RIYADH, Nov 13: The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) on Saturday launched the first edition of the Saudi Women’s Football League, in the framework of its 2017 women’s football support program. The league, which will start on November 22, 2021, will be held in two phases through the domestic regional league in its first phase, with the participation of 16 teams, who will be playing their matches in the three cities of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). Hailing the move as “a historic moment,” SAFF President Yasser Al-Mishal affirmed that all the pertinent rules and regulations for the league have been finalized. SAFF is keen on supporting the Saudi sportswomen, he said, noting that the launching of the league is a starting point in the march of women’s football sport in the Kingdom(KUNA)
