Saudi Arabia intercepts and destroys three drones entering from Iraqi airspace

RIYADH, May 17: The official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, announced that three drones were intercepted and destroyed after entering the Kingdom’s airspace from the direction of Iraqi airspace on the morning of Sunday, 17 May 2026.

He confirmed that Saudi air defence systems successfully tracked and neutralised the unmanned aerial vehicles before they could cause any damage, stressing the Kingdom’s continued vigilance in protecting its airspace.

Major General Al-Maliki added that the Ministry of Defense reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time and place, and will take all necessary operational measures to counter any attempt to violate the Kingdom’s sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents.

Authorities reiterated that Saudi Arabia remains fully prepared to deal with any aerial threats and will continue to strengthen its defensive capabilities against hostile actions.
