RIYADH, Oct 17: Saudi Arabia has executed five Saudi nationals convicted of terrorism-related offences, including joining a foreign terrorist organisation, attacking security personnel and facilities, possessing weapons and live ammunition, and financing terrorist operations inside the Kingdom, the Ministry of Interior announced Saturday.
The executions were carried out in the Eastern Province on Oct 17, 2026, following the completion of legal proceedings and the final confirmation of their death sentences by the Supreme Court, according to the ministry.
The five men were identified as Muhammad bin Munir bin Muhammad Al-Zahir, Ali bin Abdul Rab Al-Hussein Al-Sheikh, Hassan bin Zaki bin Muhammad Al-Faraj, Reda bin Muhammad bin Ali Al Abu Abdullah, and Ali bin Hassan bin Ahmed Al Rabah.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the men committed terrorist crimes by joining a foreign terrorist organisation, firing weapons and using explosives against security personnel, security headquarters and security vehicles, possessing firearms and live ammunition, and providing support to finance and carry out terrorist operations within Saudi Arabia.
Security authorities arrested the five men, and investigations led to their indictment on the charges, the statement said.
The competent court subsequently found them guilty and sentenced them to death as a discretionary punishment under the Kingdom's legal system. The verdicts became final following appeals and confirmation by the Supreme Court.
A royal decree was then issued authorising the implementation of the sentences, which were carried out on Saturday, the ministry said.
Ministry reiterates commitment to security
In its statement, the Ministry of Interior reaffirmed the Saudi government's commitment to maintaining national security, upholding justice and enforcing Islamic Sharia against those convicted of crimes that threaten innocent lives and public safety.
The ministry also warned that anyone who contemplates committing similar acts would face the legally prescribed punishment.
The announcement cited several Quranic verses condemning corruption and acts that threaten security and public order, including the verse prescribing punishment for those who wage war against God and His Messenger and spread corruption on earth.
The statement concluded with the words, “And God is the guide to the right path.”
