RIYADH, Mar 11: Air defenses in Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed 24 drones and seven ballistic missiles targeting multiple locations across the Kingdom overnight and early Wednesday, according to statements from the Ministry of Defense.
The ministry said four drones were intercepted in the Eastern Province, while two drones were destroyed in the Empty Quarter as they were heading toward the strategic Shaybah oil field. Later, two more drones were intercepted in the Eastern Province, followed by three drones in the Empty Quarter also heading toward Shaybah.
Air defenses subsequently destroyed two additional drones in the Empty Quarter bound for Shaybah and two drones in the Eastern Province. Another five drones were intercepted east of Al Kharj Governorate, while two drones were shot down in Hafr Al Batin.
The ministry also reported that six ballistic missiles launched toward Prince Sultan Air Base were intercepted and destroyed, along with one ballistic missile aimed at the Eastern Province. Additionally, two more drones were downed in the Empty Quarter while en route to the Shaybah oil field.
Authorities said the interceptions were part of ongoing efforts to safeguard vital infrastructure and maintain national security.
