Saudi Arabia deports 12,628 illegal residents in one week

RIYADH, Sept 27: Saudi Arabia deported 12,628 people following a nationwide security campaign targeting violations of residency, border security and labour regulations, the Ministry of Interior said. The joint inspections, conducted with relevant government agencies from September 17 to 23, resulted in the arrest of 13,628 violators, including 6,593 for residency violations, 3,531 for border security violations and 3,504 for labour law breaches.

Authorities also arrested 1,197 people while attempting to enter Saudi Arabia illegally. The ministry said 63 percent were Ethiopian nationals, 36 percent were Yemeni nationals and 1 percent were of other nationalities. Another 27 people were detained while attempting to leave the Kingdom illegally. Of those deported, 18,549 violators were referred to their diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents, while 3,815 were referred to complete travel arrangements. Authorities also arrested 22 people accused of transporting, sheltering or employing violators.

The ministry said 31,398 expatriates — 29,018 men and 2,380 women — are currently undergoing procedures related to their violations. It warned that anyone who facilitates illegal entry, transports or shelters violators, or provides other assistance could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to SR1 million. Vehicles used for transportation and properties used to shelter violators may also be confiscated.

The Interior Ministry urged the public to report violations by calling 911 in Makkah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 999 or 996 in other regions.
