RIYADH, Sept 7: Saudi Arabia’s National Center of Meteorology has issued a weather alert warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and possible flash floods across the kingdom from Sunday through Thursday (September 7–11).
The center said weather conditions will vary in intensity but persist intermittently over several regions, accompanied by strong winds reaching up to 60 km/h and occasional hailstorms. Authorities cautioned that downpours may cause flooding in valleys and low-lying areas, while coastal regions could experience rising waves.
According to forecasts, the southwest will be hardest hit. Jazan Province is expected to see torrential rain in mountainous districts, including Al Reith, Huroob, Fayfa, and Al Harth, with moderate to heavy showers in Jizan city, Farasan, Samtah, Abu Arish, and Sabya.
The neighboring Asir region — covering Abha, Khamis Mushait, and Mahayel Asir — will also experience severe storms, while lighter rain is predicted in Bisha and surrounding districts. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Al Baha and Taif.
Moderate rain is forecast in Riyadh, Medina, Najran, and the Eastern Province during the same period.
Civil Defense authorities urged citizens and residents to exercise caution, avoid flooded valleys and low-lying areas, and comply with safety guidelines issued by official agencies.
