RIYADH, Jul 28: Saudi Arabia’s air defenses have intercepted and destroyed several drones that attempted to target petroleum facilities in the Eastern Region, the Ministry of Defense announced.

The ministry’s official spokesperson, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, said the drone attacks were launched during the past hours from Iraqi territory and were carried out by Iran-affiliated militias.

Al-Maliki described the attacks as terrorist attempts targeting vital energy infrastructure and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to defend its territory, security and capabilities.

He added that the Kingdom reserves the right to respond against those responsible at the appropriate time and place.

Saudi authorities have continued to strengthen security measures around critical infrastructure amid ongoing regional tensions and threats from armed groups.
