KUWAIT CITY, Nov 7: On the fourth day of 13th Asian Shooting Championship, Kuwait’s shooting team managed to bag one gold and three silver medals. Also, India has replaced China on top position of the medals’ list, which China had been dominating from the start of the championship, which is currently being held at Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex in Kuwait.

In the skeet competition for individuals, Kuwait’s Saud Habeeb, who was the third place winner in 2000 World Cup shooting competition, won the gold medal after defeating Seif Fatees from United Arab Emirates, who won the silver, while the bronze medal went to the Chinese shooter Tang Chuai, who placed fourth winner in the 2010 Asiad in Guangzhou.

In the skeet competition for teams, Saud Habeeb and his compatriots Zaid Al-Mutairi and Abdullah Al-Rashidi managed to secure a silver medal for Kuwait, while the gold medal went to Chinese team and the silver to the UAE team.

In the skeet competition for amateur individuals, Nasser Al-Mutairi from Kuwait won the silver after losing to India’s Anjad Feir Singh who won the gold, while the bronze went to Anat Jeet Singh Naroka from India.

In the skeet competition for amateur teams, Kuwait’s team consisting of Nasser Al-Mutairi, Bader Al-Daihani and Hamad Al-Khalidi won silver while India won gold and Qatar bronze.

India has managed to overtake China in the medals’ list with a total of 12 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze medals, followed by China with 11 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals. South Korea is now in third place with 9 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze medals and Iran in the fourth place with 5 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals.

Kuwait has jumped to fifth position with 3 gold, 3 silver and one bronze medals, followed by Thailand with 2 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals, Kazakhstan with 2 gold medals, Tajikistan with one gold medal, Mongolia with 4 silver and one bronze medals, Qatar with one silver and 3 bronze medals, Malaysia and UAE with one silver and one bronze medals each, Singapore and Taiwan with one silver medal each, and Vietnam with two bronze medals.

Meanwhile, President of Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah withdrew from the ASC presidential election in favor of Bahrain’s Sheikh Ali Al-Khalifa, who was unanimously elected as the President for the next four years.

The withdrawal announcement was issued during the ASC General Assembly meeting that was held on Thursday last week in Kuwait. Representatives from 14 countries had contended for the eight positions of the executive board.

In addition, the President of Kuwait and Arab Shooting Federation Eng. Duaij Al-Otaibi withdrew from the ASC membership in favor of two other Asian nominees.

These moves by the two Kuwaiti officials surprised everyone participating in the confederation from the 33 Asian nations.

In the last three ASC general assemblies of 2004, 2007 and 2011, Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah was elected unanimously. In 2006 he was elected as a member of the administrative council of the International Shooting Federation and a member of the Executive Committee. In 2010, he was elected as the Vice President of International Shooting Federation.
