Salwa Al-Sabah and Al-Fatat in competitive groups for Volleyball Championship

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 22: The West Asian Volleyball Federation, in partnership with Salwa Al-Sabah Club, has unveiled the schedule for the inaugural West Asia Women’s Volleyball Club Championship. The tournament will take place at Khalid Al-Marzouq Hall from December 3 to 13, under the patronage of the Minister of Information and Culture and the Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi.

Salwa Al-Sabah’s women’s team will open the championship on the first day against Yemen’s Al-Nasr, while Kuwait’s Al-Fatat Club will play its opening match on the second day against Lebanon’s Al-Qalamoun.

The tournament draw placed host Salwa Al-Sabah in the competitive Group 2 alongside Qatar’s Al-Arabi, UAE’s Sharjah, and Yemen’s Al-Nasr. Group 1 features Qatar SC, Al-Fatat (Kuwait), Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ula, and Lebanon’s Al-Qalamoun, while Group 3 includes Jordan’s Al-Nasr, Palestine’s Al-Quds, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Fayha, and Iraq’s Sanharib.

In preparation for the championship, Salwa Al-Sabah trained intensively and played a friendly match against the U.S. Army women’s team, securing a 3–0 victory.

Tunisian coach Karim Bouyiad praised the team’s commitment and high morale, highlighting the presence of three international professionals: Russian sisters Anna and Anastasia Merkierfa, and Serbian player Almina.

Bouyiad also thanked the Salwa Club management, led by Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmad, for their strong support in developing the women’s volleyball program and preparing the team for the championship.
