KUWAIT CITY, Oct 4: About 8 years after the Kuwaitis began occupying their homes, the lack of government services continues in the residential city of Sabah Al-Ahmad, the residents continue to suffer because of the failure to implement service projects that meet their needs, in a new city in the heart of the desert of the southern region, reports Al-Rai daily.

The Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) has implemented many of the service buildings outlined in the city’s construction plan, but weak coordination between government institutions led to a delay in the implementation and operation of important facilities that serve the city’s people.

Some representatives of the residents told the daily they are dissatisfied with the delay in the implementation of many important projects that serve the city’s residents, summarizing their needs with 6 main demands, which would relieve them of the burden and difficulty of the road to reach educational institutions, for students, and work centers for employees. The city suffers from deficiencies in educational and health services and some service centers, which give them reassurance in their new home in the south of the country.

These demands include connecting the cities of the south with the country’s governorates, establishing an integrated government hospital within the city, establishing a university and branches of applied institutes, extending a sewage network, planting trees in the city and creating public parks and ntroducing new cities through the real estate developer.

The head of the volunteer committee for the people of the city, Turki Al-Osaimi, told Al-Rai that the PAHW has built more than 250 service buildings, including schools, mosques, police stations, cooperative societies, central, post office, municipal center, and others, and all of them are currently working, indicating that these efforts are for which the organization is grateful.

He added, “As for the city’s current needs, they are represented by the construction of a road linking Al-Wafra Road to the Seventh Ring Road and linking the new residential cities in southern Kuwait with the other governorates of Kuwait. This is a major requirement.

“We also demand the establishment of an integrated government hospital within the city, the establishment of a university and branches of applied institutes, the afforestation of the city and the establishment of parks.”

He went on to say, “We hope to improve coordination between state ministries, to provide all basic services, including education, health, and others, as well as develop the main road network to connect the cities of Kuwait and the southern region. We also hope to establish sewage stations in the new cities, before citizens live, so that they do not suffer as we suffer the city of Sabah Al-Ahmad.”
