DUBAI, Jun 21: Dubai Police has warned motorists against running red lights after the violation caused 41 traffic accidents since the beginning of the year, resulting in four deaths and 55 injuries .

Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said running a red light is one of the most dangerous traffic violations, as it can lead to severe collisions at intersections and put drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and other road users at serious risk.

According to Dubai Police traffic statistics, accidents caused by motorists ignoring red signals have resulted in injuries of varying severity, in addition to the four fatalities recorded so far this year.

Brigadier Bin Suwaidan said the main causes of the violation include rushing to save time, distraction while driving, mobile phone use, attempting to cross intersections at the last moment, and misjudging speed and distance.

He warned that a few seconds of impatience can lead to tragic consequences and permanently affect the lives of innocent people.

Traffic signals, he added, are designed to regulate vehicle movement, improve road safety, and ensure smooth traffic flow, especially at busy intersections where vehicles are moving from several directions at the same time.

Dubai Police urged motorists to fully comply with traffic signals, slow down gradually when approaching intersections, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, stay focused while driving, and avoid crossing on an amber light when it is safe to stop.

Brigadier Bin Suwaidan said Dubai Police continues to strengthen road safety through awareness campaigns, traffic enforcement, and the use of smart technologies and advanced monitoring systems to detect dangerous violations.

He stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility, adding that stopping at a red light is not optional but a legal duty and responsible behavior that protects lives and supports community safety.
