Rubio to Visit UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain for Talks on Iran Deal and Gulf Security

WASHINGTON, Jun 22: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain this week for talks on regional security and the recently reached memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, the State Department said Monday.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said Rubio’s visit will take place from June 23 to 25 and will focus on several regional priorities, including the US-Iran memorandum of understanding, efforts to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz , and the broader need for peace and stability in the region.

According to the State Department, Rubio will discuss “a range of regional priorities including the memorandum of understanding with Iran, efforts to secure full and free safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz, and the importance of peace and stability in the region.”

In Bahrain , Rubio is expected to meet representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council to discuss shared priorities and cooperation on key issues affecting Gulf states.

The trip marks one of the most senior US engagements with Gulf countries since Washington and Tehran reached the memorandum of understanding last week. The agreement launched a 60-day negotiating process aimed at reaching a broader settlement and reducing tensions in the region.

The visit also comes amid heightened international concern over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments, and ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent further regional escalation.
