JAKARTA, Jul 23: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday that no country has the right to restrict the free movement of commerce and travel through international waterways, including the Taiwan Strait.

Rubio made the remarks in a post on X, saying that the ASEAN Regional Forum has supported dialogue on regional security issues for more than three decades.

“For more than 30 years, the ASEAN Regional Forum has supported dialogue on security issues impacting the region. No nation has the right to restrict the free flow of commerce and travel through international waterways, including in the Taiwan Strait,” Rubio said.

His comments come amid ongoing tensions over maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific, where disputes over strategic waterways have remained a major regional concern.
