‘Royal’ likely involved in money-laundering

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22: The Ministry of Interior is exerting utmost efforts to untangle the cases of corruption and orders will soon be issued for the arrest of three officers who are believed to the involved in the money laundering case of Iranian Salehi, the so-called Bneider money laundering network in which a member of the ruling family is said to be involved, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The other members of the gang are a Lebanese, a bedoun, a Bangladeshi and two Kuwaitis. The investigations have revealed a Sheikh (lawyer) is one of the close associates and was in constant contact with the main accused, in addition to another lawyer.

The sources said investigations are underway to verify the extent of their involvement in the case. The sources added this case is ‘snowballing’ in terms of the number of defendants and is believed to be gaining momentum unlike the case of the Bangladeshi MP, who is also known as ‘Pablo’, which is similar in accusation and involves many well-known personalities.

The sources said the name of a fourth officer popped up during the investigations but the concerned authorities are in no hurry to issue a warrant against him but will wait for the results of investigations, but nothing has been ruled out, Meanwhile, the daily said the Public Prosecution Office continues investigations non-stop into the cases of celebrities who are accused of involvement in money laundering operations. An informed source told the daily the Public Prosecution personnel recently visited the offices of Yaqoub Bushehri and Noha Nabil to check and seized documents related to the case. It is not known if the Prosecution has actually confiscated any papers. The source said the State Security Agency in cooperation with security men personnel from the Public Prosecution conducted the search.

The source added, a big number of well-known people are said to be involved in money laundering operations but until now neither their names have been disclosed nor their assets frozen, and therefore the issue needs to be carefully handled
