KUWAIT CITY, Oct 30: The General Authority for Food and Nutrition, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior’s General Department of Criminal Investigations, has uncovered a food establishment involved in trading spoiled meat and fish unfit for human consumption, tampering with fish expiry dates and handling food under unsanitary conditions.
The operation resulted in the destruction of 3 tons and 548 kilograms of food products deemed unfit for human consumption, the issuance of violation reports and the closure of the establishment.
According to details revealed in an inspection video released by the authority, inspectors found fish products that had exceeded their expiry dates and showed clear signs of deterioration, including changes in color and appearance, as well as abnormal foul odors.
The inspection also uncovered meat products whose natural characteristics had deteriorated, with changes in color and unpleasant smells. The products included frozen Indian buffalo meat that had been thawed.
The video also documented expired fish products bearing expiry dates of October 15 and October 18, 2026, raising concerns over the handling and trading of expired food items and the reported manipulation of expiry dates.
The authority said the operation was part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen inspections of food establishments and protect public health.
It reaffirmed that inspection campaigns would continue and that all necessary legal measures would be taken against establishments violating food safety regulations to safeguard consumers.
