DUBAI, Sep 4: Roblox has announced new measures aimed at improving its communications operations and strengthening Arabic-language content moderation to create a safer and more reliable digital environment for users in the region.
In a statement, the company confirmed that it has disabled certain communication features, including in-platform chat, for all users in Saudi Arabia. The move is part of Roblox’s broader effort to align with the aspirations of users and the content creator community in the Kingdom, while also respecting local culture, building local capabilities, fostering safer digital practices, and supporting the growth of the content creator economy.
The decision followed discussions with several Saudi government agencies, including the General Authority for Media Regulation.
Meanwhile, the UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced on Thursday that Roblox has made similar changes to its platform in the UAE. In a statement posted on its X account, the TRA said that communication features such as chat have been temporarily disabled. The platform has also introduced enhanced content moderation in Arabic, upgraded safety features, and expanded parental control tools.
Roblox has faced restrictions in several countries—including China, Turkey, Oman, Jordan, North Korea, Qatar, and Kuwait—where authorities have raised concerns about content censorship, exposure to inappropriate behavior, and risks to children’s psychological and digital safety.
