KUWAIT CITY, Aug 27: Electronic fraud is increasing day after day, and Kuwait – along with its citizens and the expatriates – remains the target of gangs that use various methods to entrap new victims daily despite the efforts of various State agencies to raise public awareness on the crime, reports Al- Anba daily quoting security sources. Sources told the daily that the concerned departments at the Interior Ministry receive five to 10 fraud reports daily, including theft of funds from the bank accounts of citizens and expatriates.

Sources confirmed these departments continue to take the necessary measures, indicating the estimated amount stolen from citizens and expatriates through electronic fraud has so far reached about KD1 million. Sources confirmed that the concerned State agencies are working on this aspect from two axis, the first of which is educational like broadcasting awareness messages in different media formats to warn the public about electronic fraud methods, within the “Let us be aware” campaign adopted by the Central Bank of Kuwait and banks.

The second axis involve the security authorities that work based on a specific plan to eliminate these threats, as they have located most of the electronic fraud gangs targeting Kuwait and the concerned countries will be contacted soon through official channels to take legal measures against the gangs in order to protect the public.
