Traffic department surveilling from the control room
KUWAIT CITY, May 18: Traffic officers continued their intensive field campaigns in various areas, leading to the arrest of six individuals who were found to be illegally transporting passengers. A security source explained to the Arab Times newspaper that the traffic campaigns are in line with the efforts of the General Traffic Department at the Interior Ministry to maintain public safety and reduce violations on the roads. He pointed out that the penalty for using a motor vehicle to transport passengers for hire without a permit is KD150 in case of settlement and imprisonment from one to three years, and a fine of KD600 to KD1,000 or one of these two penalties, if the case is referred to the court.
Also, traffic officers arrested two young men who were racing their vehicles on the road. According to a security source, the traffic officers spotted the two young men committing the aforementioned traffic violation. The officers pursued and apprehended them, and then they were taken to the traffic police station, while their vehicles were impounded.
The source affirmed that traffic officers operate throughout the country to track down violators, including reckless drivers, and then take legal measures against those proven to have committed violations.
