RFP issued for Kuwait’s telecom overhaul

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 6: The Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority (PPP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications, has invited qualified companies and consortiums to submit their requests for proposals (RFP) for the development of Kuwait’s fixed telecommunications network, reports Al-Seyassah daily. This project is a major initiative aimed at significantly enhancing the country’s telecom infrastructure. In a statement released to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the PPP Authority announced the names of eligible participants for this project -- Bahrain Telecommunications, E& International Holding Limited, TAMM - S.P.A., and Brookfield Corporation.

Partnership

These companies have been pre-qualified based on their expertise and capabilities to implement such large-scale telecommunications infrastructure projects. The partnership contract will be established between the Ministry of Communications and the project company, by the provisions of Law 116/2014, which governs partnerships between the public and private sectors in Kuwait. The agreement will span a total of 50 years, including both the construction phase and the operational management of the necessary sites for the network’s development. The project’s primary goal is to provide a high-speed telecommunications network with an initial capacity of 10 gigabits per second. It also aims to expand the fiber optic network to cover at least 90 percent of homes across Kuwait, ensuring that the country meets modern industry standards and enhances connectivity for its residents.
