BERLIN, Apr 23: Reza Pahlavi was splashed with red liquid on Thursday as he exited a building following a news conference in Berlin, in an incident that briefly disrupted his public appearance.

Eyewitnesses said the liquid was thrown at Pahlavi moments after he greeted supporters outside the venue. He appeared unharmed, waved to the crowd, and quickly entered a waiting vehicle, which departed the scene.

Police immediately detained the suspected perpetrator, though authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the individual or the motive behind the act.

Pahlavi, who has lived in exile for nearly five decades, is the son of Iran’s last monarch, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was overthrown during the Iranian Revolution. Despite the monarchy’s collapse amid widespread public unrest at the time, Pahlavi has continued to position himself as a potential figure in Iran’s political future.

Earlier,  Reza Pahlavi has criticized the recent ceasefire between United States and Iran, arguing that it is based on unrealistic expectations about Tehran’s conduct.

Speaking at a news conference in Berlin on Thursday, Pahlavi said the agreement assumes the Iranian leadership will suddenly act pragmatically. “I don’t see that happening,” he stated, adding, “I’m not saying diplomacy should not be given a chance, but I think diplomacy has been given enough chance.”

Pahlavi, who has long positioned himself as a potential alternative should Iran’s current system collapse, has voiced support for U.S.-Israeli military intervention in the region. He also urged European nations to take stronger action in support of Iranians advocating for democratic change.

Highlighting the human rights situation, Pahlavi claimed that 19 political prisoners had been executed in the past two weeks, with another 20 individuals reportedly sentenced to death by Iranian authorities. “Will the free world do something or watch the slaughter in silence,” he said.
