TEHRAN, July 8: A member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Third Naval Region was killed on Wednesday in what the force described as an "enemy" drone attack in the southwestern city of Bandar Mahshahr, as fresh explosions were reported elsewhere in southern Iran.

According to the IRGC's public relations office, the serviceman was killed while responding to the drones. The statement did not identify who launched the attack or provide further details about the incident.

The reported drone attack came after the United States said it had carried out a new wave of overnight strikes on military targets across Iran, including facilities linked to drone operations and assets belonging to the Revolutionary Guards, as hostilities between Washington and Tehran continued to escalate.

Separately, Iranian state media reported that explosions were heard on Wednesday in the southern port cities of Bandar Abbas and Bushehr. No immediate information was released on the cause of the blasts or whether there were any casualties or damage.

The incidents mark the latest escalation in the growing confrontation, with military activity reported across multiple parts of Iran.
