KUWAIT CITY, March 14: The Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to six-month imprisonment with hard labor for beating his minor daughter and mistreating her out of hatred towards his exwife, who is the mother of the victim, and sending video clips to the latter. The Public Prosecution had charged the citizen with battering and abusing the victim, both physically and mentally, and denying his daughter basic rights and care, which is deemed natural for her to receive from her father.

His ex-wife asserted that the defendant (her ex-husband) sent her video clips via social media, documenting his sexual harassment of their minor daughter and his mistreatment of her by slapping her in the face and forcing her to smoke. During the court session, Lawyer Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan claimed a civil right, stressing that the accusations against the accused were proven, and the elements of the crimes against him were available.

He highlighted that according to the law, the father or the person responsible for the care of the child is entitled to be deprived of all the benefits in kind granted by the state if a judgment is issued against him for the crime committed. Lawyer Al- Qattan said the penalty prescribed for any crime is doubled if it is committed against a child, committed by a parent or guardian who is responsible for his/her supervision and upbringing, or has authority over him/her, or is a servant of the aforementioned.
