KUWAIT CITY, Dec 7: The Court of Appeal has sentenced a retired officer from the Ministry of Interior to five years’ imprisonment with hard labor after convicting him of multiple criminal offenses, including vehicle theft, armed robbery, and attempted robbery of a money exchange shop in the Fintas area.
According to court records, the defendant stole a taxi prior to carrying out the attempted robbery. He later broke into a foreign exchange shop in Fintas while armed, threatening an employee in an attempt to steal cash. However, the robbery was unsuccessful after the weapon he was carrying malfunctioned, preventing him from completing the crime.
Prosecutors stated that despite brandishing the weapon and intimidating staff, no money was taken from the exchange office. The accused subsequently fled the scene when his attempt failed.
Following a thorough judicial review, the Court of Appeal upheld the conviction and imposed a five-year prison sentence with hard labor, emphasizing the seriousness of the crimes committed, particularly the misuse of a weapon and the violation of public safety.
The ruling brings the case to a close after appeals proceedings, reinforcing the judiciary’s firm stance against violent crime and abuse of authority.
