KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: Kuwait’s General Department of Criminal Investigation, represented by the Hawally Governorate Investigation Department and Salmiya Criminal Investigation Department, in cooperation with the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, seized a restaurant and food storage facility in Salmiya for multiple violations of food safety and licensing regulations.

The operation followed information received about the storage of food products under conditions that did not meet approved requirements and their sale to customers. After verifying the information, detectives, accompanied by food safety inspectors, raided the premises and found that the restaurant was operating despite having previously been closed by the authority.

Authorities recorded several violations, including operating after the facility’s license had been cancelled or expired, operating without a health license, using additional areas beyond the licensed space, failing to meet technical and health requirements, and trading in adulterated and unknown-source food products.

A total of 11 violators were found among workers at the restaurant and warehouse. Authorities also found that eight workers did not have health certificates issued by the competent authorities, in violation of regulations governing food handling.

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition destroyed 114 kilograms of adulterated food and issued 18 violation reports over the violations detected during the inspection.

The Ministry of Interior said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to protect public health, raise awareness and address illegal activities.
