BEIRUT, Jun 9: Residents of the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, including areas in the Christian quarter, fled after Israel issued its first full-city evacuation warning, according to an AFP correspondent.
The Israeli military on Tuesday urged all residents of Tyre to evacuate immediately and move north of the Zahrani River, warning that continued presence near Hezbollah-linked locations could endanger civilian lives. “Your presence near Hezbollah members, facilities or combat equipment puts your lives at risk,” Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement in Arabic.
The evacuation order prompted panic and displacement as civilians left the coastal city ahead of potential airstrikes, amid escalating cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah that have intensified since the latest regional conflict began.
The warning came a day after Iran said it would resume attacks on Israel if strikes on Lebanon continued, insisting that any broader ceasefire agreement must also include a halt to fighting in Lebanon.
Israel has repeatedly struck Tyre in recent months, targeting what it describes as Hezbollah positions, following rocket fire from the Iran-backed group. The latest escalation marks one of the most significant evacuation warnings issued for a Lebanese city since the conflict intensified.
