‘Residence Dept’ asked to accept expired passports

KUWAIT CITY, April 15: In a humanitarian gesture, Director General of the General Department of Residency Affairs Brigadier General Farid Al-Mutairi issued a circular to all departments under the General Department of Residency Affairs, instructing them to accept residents whose passports have expired and who were unable to renew them, but have had them extended through their embassies.

The circular stated the following: Given the current situation in the country and the region, and to ensure the smooth operation of services and facilitate procedures for applicants, it has been decided to accept residents whose passports have expired and who were unable to renew them, but have had them extended, and to process their transactions using these passports. The extension must be stamped in the passport and accompanied by a letter from the resident’s embassy in Kuwait, authenticated by Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirming the validity of the passport extension. All employees are hereby instructed to adhere to these instructions and not to deviate from them.
