KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: After a courageous battle with illness, the esteemed television writer Fatima Al-Sula has peacefully departed to God’s mercy. Her illustrious career, marked by numerous successes in crafting dramatic television works, was dedicated to preserving the customs and traditions ingrained in Kuwaiti and Gulf society.

The passing of the talented writer marks a significant loss for Kuwaiti and Gulf television drama, as it bids farewell to one of its stalwarts. Fatima Al-Sula, widely known as “Umm Faisal,” commenced her television writing journey in 2005, swiftly earning a prominent position among drama writers in Kuwait, the Gulf, and the Arab world. Her distinct writing style resonated with viewers, evident in her impactful works such as “Omar Al-Shaqa,” “Things That Cannot Be Bought,” “Al-Adheed,” “Nour Ayni,” “A Missing Woman,” and “Men Selling Illusion.” Through these creations, Fatima Al-Sula crafted a unique narrative, addressing social and humanitarian issues with finesse and respect for the Kuwaiti and Gulf audience’s taste. Her works were distinguished by the correct usage of Kuwaiti vocabulary, ensuring a meaningful connection with viewers.

Despite being the daughter of the late musician Ibrahim Al-Sula, the composer of the national anthem, Fatima Al-Sula did not leverage her family connection to enter the realm of television writing. Instead, she relied on her capabilities, displaying a level of humility and dedication to her craft. While she had a natural talent for writing poetry, stories, and novels from a young age, she also inherited musical inclinations from her late father. Fatima Al-Sula contributed significantly to the Ministry of Education, writing operettas such as “The Story of Dana” and “The Martyrs of Kuwait.” Her national contributions extended beyond television, reflecting her versatile talents.
