KUWAIT CITY, Dec 19: A man posing as a Kuwaiti police officer has been exposed in a disturbing scam attempt that highlights a growing threat targeting unsuspecting residents. The individual falsely claimed to be “Ahmed Abdullah Al-Anzi” from the Cybercrime Department and attempted to intimidate people into handing over personal information, including Civil ID details, while also trying to take their photographs.

The scammer appeared confident and authoritative, banking on the assumption that victims were unaware of official police procedures in Kuwait. However, authorities and cybersecurity experts have repeatedly warned that Kuwait Police do not contact individuals by phone, WhatsApp, or social media to request personal details, documents, or photographs under any circumstances.

Officials stress that all official notifications, summons, or communications from the Ministry of Interior are issued only through the Sahel government app or official in-person channels. Any unsolicited call or message claiming to be from the police should be treated as a red flag.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant, remember the face of the impersonator circulating online, and immediately report similar attempts to authorities. Falling for such scams can lead to identity theft, financial loss, and legal complications. Awareness remains the strongest defense—Kuwait Police never call for personal details, and anyone who does is almost certainly a scammer.
