UAE, Dec 16: Heading into a new chapter by leaving a country you've called home for years involves more than just packing your bags. If you've built a life in the UAE, disconnecting your data and calling services should be a top priority, along with returning that latest smartphone you received as part of a package deal.

As you bid farewell to the UAE for good, remember to inform your service provider well in advance and initiate the disconnection process. Unfortunately, this critical step is often overlooked during the relocation process.

Whether you're a subscriber with Etisalat, Du, or Virgin Mobile, a well-defined process is in place for the disconnection or 'termination of contract.' Here's a step-by-step guide for each:

Etisalat by e&

  1. Canceling Your Monthly Subscription:
    • Ensure all outstanding fees are settled before proceeding.
    • Additional charges apply if canceling before the contract's stipulated period.
    • After clearing dues, call 101 or visit any Etisalat store to submit your cancellation request.
  2. Keeping Your Number Active:
    • Subscribe to 'homebound' packs to retain access to Etisalat services for up to 60 days after leaving the UAE.
  3. For Prepaid Users:
    • Call 101 or visit an Etisalat store to request cancellation.
    • Ensure no lend-me/reserve credit service is active, and any remaining credit balance will be forfeited upon cancellation.

  1. Cancellation Procedure:
    • Visit any Du store to initiate the cancellation process.
    • An agent will calculate charges based on the total outstanding balance, early cancellation fees (if applicable), and the full monthly charge for the current month.
    • Expect a call from Du within 24 hours to finalize the cancellation.
  2. For Prepaid Users:

Virgin Mobile

  1. Cancellation Guidelines:
    • Utilize the Virgin Mobile app for a seamless cancellation process.
    • Subscribers on 6 and 12-month plans should contact the provider if opting for cancellation before the final month of their subscription.
    • The account will remain active until the cancellation takes effect on the renewal date.
  2. Cancellation via the App:
    • For iOS devices: Tap 'More' in the bottom menu, then locate and tap your name to access the 'My Account' screen. Select 'Terminate my account' and follow the provided instructions.
    • For Android devices: Open the side menu, find your name, and tap to navigate to the 'My Account' screen. Choose 'Terminate my account' and proceed with the termination instructions.
  3. Reactivation Process:
    • If you decide to reactivate your account, sign up again using your original email address within 12 months from the date of your previous termination.
