A drone was downed near the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Dahab on Tuesday,

EGYPT, Dec 26: In a recent incident, security sources have reported the downing of a drone near the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Dahab. However, the sources were unable to confirm the drone's origin.

This development follows Israel's statement in late October, attributing drone attacks on its territory to Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthis. The incidents occurred after drones caused explosions in two Egyptian towns on the Red Sea, namely Taba and Nuweiba.

Colonel Gharib Abdel-Hafez, Egypt’s military spokesman, previously indicated that the two drones were launched from the southern Red Sea, targeting northward. Yemen is situated at the southern end of the sea, while Israel is at the northern end.

The Houthis in Yemen have escalated their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea as a protest against Israel’s involvement in the conflict in Gaza.

Eyewitnesses in Dahab reported an explosion at sea, followed by an object falling into the water, resulting in no damage or injuries.

In a separate incident earlier this month, Egyptian air defenses reportedly successfully intercepted and downed another suspected drone near Dahab, according to security sources. For more updates, follow our Google News channel online or via the app.
