MP Safa submits queries to FM on cases filed
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 5: The recent flooding in many parts of the country proved that the minister of public works can no longer run the ministry, considering that millions of Kuwaiti dinars were spent on the maintenance of sewage networks, says MP Faisal Al- Kandari.
The MP wonders where the large amount allegedly used for maintenance of sewage networks went, as floods continue to victimize citizens who are now demanding for compensation from the ministry because their houses were damaged due to the flood.
Citing the flood on the Sixth Ring Road, the MP wondered if the road was not maintained and if the ministry will come out with another excuse soon. He said the minister usually appears on media to justify such incidents by issuing “flimsy statements.” He then urged the minister to take responsibility, especially since the road projects approved by supervising bodies have yet to see the light of day.
In another development, most likely prompted by youths joining their friends in wearing Halloween costumes, MP Mohammed Hayef Al-Mutairi stressed the need to pay attention to the rising number of public gatherings which are not in accordance with Islamic teachings. Although he did not specify the type of gathering he was referring to, the lawmaker asserted: “We should stop such things from happening as they might escalate and disturb the general public. We should not allow any gathering unless it complies with Islamic teachings.”
Furthermore, MP Safa Al-Hashem submitted queries to Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al- Sabah on the cases filed by Kuwaiti delegations against those who offended the State of Kuwait and its leaders. She pointed out the minister announced in a press statement that the ministry is monitoring foreign social media to uncover anything offensive to the country. She wants to know if the ministry discovered such cases so far and requested for details of measures taken, if any.
On the other hand, MP Essa Al- Kandari said the country witnessed the passage of a large number of legislation in the past couple of years; making it difficult for researchers, legal experts and other concerned individuals to identify what laws were amended and when.
This has prompted him to submit a request for details such as the exact number of laws according to the latest amendments, date and subjects. Also, the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee elected MP Khaled Al- Shatti as its chairman and MP Khaleel Abul as rapporteur.
Speaking to the media after the committee meeting, Abul revealed that they agreed to meet every Monday and Tuesday if there is no parliamentary session in order to expedite the revision of proposals submitted by MPs and refer them to the concerned committees.
