‘Quota’ hinders return of domestic workers

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 17: When the plan was announced by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for the return of domestic workers back to Kuwait, citizens were filled with joy, but obstacles prevented them from proceeding forward according to the scheduled plan. 

An informed source in the administration revealed  that there are obstacles and difficulties encountered in the plan for the return of domestic workers, most notably is the failure to open the country’s airspace for Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways. Some countries demanded  to create quota and allow their local air carriers to fly passengers from their country. Hence due to this only one flight was able to fly from the Philippines carrying only 28 domestic workers on board.

Number of countries such as India, Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Nepal refused to open airspace as they stipulated to fly passengers equal quota by their countries airlines such as Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways, report Al Rai.  The Directorate General of Civil Aviation avoided the crisis and defused the situation by approving the request. It is expected that airlines of the countries from which domestic workers are to arrive will operate their flights from next week.
