Qatari LNG Tanker Struck by Projectile in Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg Reports

DUBAI, Aug 1: A tanker carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg reported on Saturday, citing security intelligence firms and ship-tracking data.

Security firms identified the vessel as the GasLog Shanghai, which was reportedly targeted while passing through one of the world's most critical energy shipping routes.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) earlier reported that a tanker was struck off the coast of Oman, causing damage to its engine room and leaving the vessel unable to maneuver.

No casualties were reported, and authorities said there was no indication of any environmental impact from the incident.

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is a vital maritime passage through which a significant portion of global energy supplies, including oil and LNG shipments, pass.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and increased concerns over maritime security in the Gulf region.
