Qatar Welcomes US-Iran Memorandum, Hails Step Toward Regional Stability

DOHA, June 15: The State of Qatar on Monday welcomed the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran to address outstanding issues between the two countries, describing it as an important step toward strengthening sustainable peace, regional stability and economic growth.

In a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the agreement, which includes provisions aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, represents a positive development that could contribute to security and prosperity both regionally and internationally.

The ministry praised the determination of both Washington and Tehran to resolve differences through negotiations and peaceful means, expressing appreciation for their commitment to dialogue.

Qatar also commended the role played by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and other regional and international parties in helping to reduce tensions, facilitate communication and bring viewpoints closer together, efforts that ultimately contributed to the agreement.

Reaffirming its support for diplomatic solutions, the ministry said Qatar backs all initiatives aimed at enhancing regional security and stability and resolving disputes through dialogue in accordance with international law and the principles of good-neighbourliness.

The statement added that such efforts can help open new avenues for cooperation, development and prosperity while serving the shared interests of the peoples of the region and the wider international community.
