DOHA, Mar 1: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that Qatari armed forces intercepted the majority of missiles and drones launched toward the State of Qatar from the Islamic Republic of Iran, preventing significant damage and loss of life. Air defence systems detected 65 ballistic missiles and 12 drones approaching from multiple directions, of which 63 missiles and 11 drones were destroyed before reaching their targets. Two missiles landed near Al Udeid Air Base and one drone struck an early-warning radar site, but no fatalities were reported.
The Ministry of Interior said eight people were injured, including one in serious condition, and confirmed damage to public and private property. Emergency teams responded to 114 reports of falling shrapnel across the country. Authorities urged the public to remain calm, follow official instructions, and refrain from spreading unverified information or sharing images of the incident.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attack as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and a dangerous escalation. Officials reiterated Qatar’s commitment to dialogue but stressed that repeated targeting of its territory undermines bilateral understandings and violates international law. Authorities affirmed that all agencies acted swiftly under a coordinated emergency plan to safeguard the public and maintain essential services.
