DOHA, Oct 28: Qatar is leading regional mediation efforts to revive negotiations between the United States and Iran and prevent a renewed war after the US midterm elections, Axios reported Wednesday, citing three US, Israeli and regional sources.
According to the report, Qatari mediators are seeking to persuade Tehran to allow United Nations nuclear inspectors access to facilities damaged by US and Israeli strikes.
In exchange, the proposal would offer Iran partial relief from US sanctions, the report said.
The mediation efforts come amid concerns over a possible resumption of hostilities following the November 3 US midterm elections. The reported initiative aims to restore diplomatic engagement and address tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.
