DOHA, July 17: Qatar's armed forces intercepted an Iranian missile attack that targeted the country at dawn on Friday, while a child was injured by falling shrapnel generated during the interception, the country's authorities announced.
The Ministry of Defense said the armed forces successfully intercepted the incoming missile attack before it could reach its intended target. No further details were released regarding the number of missiles involved or the locations targeted.
Following the attack, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that security agencies and Civil Defense teams immediately activated approved emergency response plans as part of ongoing monitoring of developments on the ground.
According to the ministry, field assessments and official reports indicated that one child sustained injuries after being struck by falling debris from the missile interception. The child was transported for medical treatment and is currently receiving the necessary care. No other injuries or fatalities were reported.
Authorities urged the public to rely exclusively on official sources for information regarding the incident and warned against circulating rumors, unverified reports, photographs or video clips, stressing that doing so could result in legal action.
The Ministry of Interior said all security agencies remain on high alert and continue to operate around the clock to ensure public safety, strengthen rapid response capabilities and maintain the uninterrupted delivery of essential services.
