DOHA, Oct 2: Kuwait's cricket team secured a thrilling victory on Monday against Qatar's national team, edging them out with a narrow score of 130-129 in the Asian competition hosted in Doha. This win places Kuwait in contention for the 2024 Cricket World Cup to be held in the United States.

This remarkable victory marked Kuwait's third triumph in the qualifiers, catapulting their total points to six. Prior to this pivotal match, Kuwait had clinched back-to-back victories against both the Qatari and Maldivian teams, though they had suffered a loss to Saudi Arabia.

Mahmoud Abdullah, speaking to KUNA, acknowledged the intensity of the match against Qatar's team, highlighting the familiarity between the players due to their previous encounters.

It's important to note that the tournament follows a league format, with each team engaging in two matches against the other participating teams, resulting in a total of six matches per team. The winner of each match earns two valuable points, and the team with the highest accumulated points will advance to the second stage of the qualifiers, which will take place in Nepal.

Kuwait's triumphs include a closely contested match against the host team from Qatar, ending with a score of 124-123. They also secured victory against the Maldives with a score of 103-100, while falling short in a hard-fought match against Saudi Arabia with a score of 174-175.

This competition, featuring Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the Maldives, commenced on September 28 in Doha and will continue until October 5.
