Qatar Demands Iran Compensate for Damage Caused by Attacks

DOHA, Jul 21: Qatar has demanded that Iran compensate it for all damage resulting from attacks on its territory, holding Tehran fully responsible in letters submitted to the United Nations and the UN Security Council.

In the letters, Qatar said the Islamic Republic of Iran bears "full legal responsibility" for the attacks and their consequences, making it obligated to compensate the Gulf state for all losses incurred.

Doha cited several incidents, including the attack on the Qatari tanker Al-Rukayyat near the Strait of Hormuz on July 7, as well as Iranian missile attacks on Qatar on July 12 and July 17.

Qatar said three people, including a child, were injured by falling debris following missile interception operations on July 12.

The government also reserved its right to respond under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which recognizes the inherent right of self-defense, and said it would take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security and population.

The move comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and Gulf states as the regional conflict continues to escalate.
