DOHA, Nov 1: Qatar has strongly condemned an attack targeting its liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker, Al Mayeda, while it was sailing in the Arabian Gulf, warning that the incident threatens maritime navigation and global energy supplies.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the tanker is owned by Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) and described the attack as a dangerous act with potential implications for regional security and the global energy market.

The ministry affirmed that Qatar reserves the right to take all necessary measures, in accordance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations, to protect its property, safeguard its interests and ensure the safety of its vessels and crews.

It added that the competent authorities had launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

Qatar also warned that such actions could have serious repercussions for regional security and stability, as well as the global economy.

The ministry highlighted the potential environmental consequences of attacks on energy tankers, warning that damage to such vessels could pose serious risks to the marine environment and threaten water security across countries in the region.
