ABU DHABI, Feb 14: Qadsia launches its preparations this evening in the United Arab Emirates as it gears up for a crucial showdown against Al-Ain next Wednesday in the sixth and final round of Group A in the Gulf Champions League.

Sitting third with seven points, Qadsia has no margin for error — only a win will send it through to the semifinals. Al-Ain, second on nine points, requires just a draw to secure qualification, while Iraq’s Zakho has already advanced after claiming top spot in the group with 10 points.

Head coach Nabil Maaloul opted to rest several players in recent sessions following the Kuwait FA’s decision to postpone its match against Burgan.

The club is also awaiting a response from the Gulf federation regarding its appeal over the yellow card shown to Algerian professional Sofiane Bouchar in last week’s match against Zakho. The booking currently sidelines him from the decisive encounter with Al-Ain.

Defender Youssef Al-Haqan acknowledged the challenge ahead, describing Al-Ain as a strong side capable of delivering convincing performances, but stressed that Qadsia are fully prepared for the test.

He highlighted the team’s high morale and fighting spirit, especially after a series of positive results, and voiced confidence in the fans’ support in the must-win fixture.

Midfielder Jassem Al-Matar emphasized the need for intense focus against Al-Ain, expressing hope that Qadsia can rise to the occasion in the final group-stage round.

Reflecting on advice from club legend Jassem Yaqoub, Al-Matar said he was honored to receive guidance from a player of such stature and confirmed his commitment to applying the recommendations fully.
