MOSCOW, Apr 27: Vladimir Putin said Russia will do everything in its power to support Iran and safeguard regional stability, as Tehran’s top diplomat blamed the United States for the collapse of recent negotiations.

During a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Putin expressed hope that the Iranian people would overcome what he described as a “difficult period” and that peace would ultimately prevail. He added that Moscow would act in the interests of Iran and other countries in the region, according to Russia’s state-run RIA Novosti.

Araghchi, speaking after arriving in Saint Petersburg, said Washington’s “excessive demands” had derailed earlier rounds of talks between Tehran and the United States, despite reported progress.

“The US approaches caused the previous round of negotiations to fail to reach its goals,” he said.

Meanwhile, Iran signaled that indirect communication channels remain active. The Fars News Agency reported that Tehran has sent written messages to the United States via Pakistan outlining its red lines, including positions on nuclear issues and the Strait of Hormuz.

The report noted that these exchanges are not part of formal negotiations but indicate ongoing backchannel efforts amid heightened regional tensions.
