KUWAIT CITY, Jan 10: In a significant legal development, the Criminal Court has issued a verdict in an embezzlement case involving the misappropriation of 6 million and 711,000 dinars earmarked for overseas medical treatment. The court has sentenced an Egyptian expatriate to 10 years in prison for unlawfully acquiring 6 million dinars and 711,000 dinars allocated for treatment abroad. The convict achieved this by falsifying invoices related to 1,942 patients.

Additionally, a director employed at the Ministry of Health has been sentenced to 7 years in prison and fined 300,000 dinars in connection with the same case. The director’s involvement revolves around a dubious agreement with the Egyptian expatriate, where they agreed on a fee of 300 dinars for each patient, resulting in a staggering sum exceeding 580,000 dinars. It was revealed that the director utilized these ill-gotten funds to purchase a property in Egypt valued at 70,000 dinars and travel tickets amounting to over 44,000 dinars.

This incident highlights the grave consequences of financial misconduct within public institutions and emphasizes the importance of stringent measures to curb corruption. The court’s decision reflects a commitment to upholding justice and holding accountable those who exploit their positions for personal gain. Authorities are expected to continue their efforts to ensure transparency and integrity within the healthcare system and other governmental bodies.
