KUWAIT CITY, Jan 8: Paris Saint-Germain claimed the title of the 30th French Super Cup after defeating Marseille 4–1 in a penalty shootout, following a 2–2 draw at the end of regulation time. The match was played on Wednesday at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium before a crowd of more than 52,000 spectators.
PSG opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Ousmane Dembélé, while Sergio Ramos struck a dramatic late equalizer in the 95th minute. Marseille responded with a penalty converted by Mason Greenwood in the 76th minute, before PSG defender Pacho inadvertently scored an own goal in the 87th minute to level the match.
In the ensuing penalty shootout, Paris Saint-Germain prevailed 4–1 to secure the trophy.
Marseille, under the guidance of Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, were contesting their seventh Super Cup final, having previously lifted the title in 1971, 2010, and 2011, while finishing runners-up on three other occasions.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain, led by Spanish coach Luis Enrique, extended their record as the most successful club in the competition’s history. The victory marked PSG’s 14th French Super Cup title, adding to their recent dominance, which includes three consecutive triumphs. The club had previously lost five finals, most recently in 2021.
